What is Image Overlay?
Image overlay is the process of placing one image on top of another. It is commonly used to add watermarks to photographs, apply logos to product images, brand social media posts, or composite multiple images together. The overlay image is drawn over the base image at a specified position, opacity, and scale, producing a single merged result.
This tool handles the entire process directly in your browser. There is no server upload, no account required, and no file size limits beyond your device's memory. The output is a lossless PNG that preserves the full resolution of your base image.
How to Use
- Upload your base image — Drag and drop or click to browse. This is the background photo.
- Upload your overlay — Choose a logo, watermark, or any image to place on top. PNG with transparency works best.
- Adjust settings — Pick a position (center, corners, or tile), set the opacity (0-100%), and scale the overlay (10-200%).
- Preview and apply — The canvas shows a live preview. Click "Apply Overlay" to render the final composite.
- Download — Save the result as a full-resolution PNG file.
Common Uses
- Watermarking photos — Protect your photography by adding a semi-transparent watermark across images before sharing online.
- Adding logos to product images — Brand your e-commerce product photos with a company logo in the corner for consistent visual identity.
- Social media branding — Place your brand mark or handle on images before posting to Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook.
- Certificate and document stamping — Overlay approval stamps, signatures, or seals onto documents and certificates.
- Tiled patterns — Use the tile mode to repeat a watermark across the entire image, making it harder to crop out.
